Dear Mercury Members and other Colleagues:
During my recent month searching the inner planes, one
of the subjects that's come up repeatedly is the Grand
Cross / Total Solar Eclipse of Aug. 11, 1999, 11:03 AM
GMT, exactly over Munich. I don't know if you've seen
this chart; perhaps you have. It is intense, and I think
that given the natural power of astrology to look toward
the future, it makes sense for us to get as much
information from the chart as possible, from as many
astrological traditions as possible, and then circulate it in
the astrological community. So I've created a little survey
to see what we know.
I need to tap your astrological knowledge and also
request your help moving this around the astrological
community. Please post this survey to your newsgroups
and to the other listserves of which you are a member,
and to please mail it to astrologers who you feel are
influential or experts in particular fields. *Everyone's
comments count* -- whether you've been studying
astrology for two weeks or two decades. It is a fact that
very inexperienced astrologers often make very astute
observations. Then all of the findings will be re-published
to the people who contributed.
I am interested in two viewpoints on the eclipse: one is
collective events as they are unfolding during the weeks
and months around the event, and also what would you
say counselling people who have planets or aspects that
are aspected by the eclipse / Grand Cross aspect. I
welcome general readings on the chart from as many
astrologers as possible.
As well, I have taken the chart apart into a number of
component parts and subjects to facilitate analysis and to
identify areas in which some of us are experts and can
provide specific feedback. Whatever your specialty in
astrology, you should see it covered in this list of
questions. If not, post me please.
One last note. If you have any intuitive feelings about the
event that do not have astrological backing, those count
toward this research, in my opinion. And if you know
about anything in either historical terms or current
events that is likely to happen during the weeks
surrounding the event, please tell us. In publishing these
types of reports, I will make it clear that the origin of
those comments is not astrological in nature.
Thanks for your help both responding and bouncing this
survey around the world. Let's see what we learn.
Peace & passion,
ERIC FRANCIS

Questions / Subjects: Total Solar Eclipse at 18 Leo, 21',
August 11, 1989 at 11:03:07 am GMT
(Source: American Ephemeris. Leo New Moon is at 11:09
a.m.)
1. This is a solar eclipse in the sign Leo. Who has
experience with these, and what do you know about
them? How about eclipses in the fixed signs in general?
2. This is a Grand Cross aspect. Who has seen the effects
of Grand Crosses in history or in current events,
*without* eclipses involved? Has anyone seen or read
about an eclipse that is *part of* a Grand Cross aspect?
What's happened in the past when these arrived?
3. This is an eclipse on the North Node. What is the
difference between a North Node eclipse and a South
Node eclipse? Theoretical interpretations or experiential
reports are both welcome.
4. The eclipse is opposite the planet Uranus, which is on
the South Node. Any feelings about Uranus on the South
Node, and any feelings about its direct involvement in an
eclipse? When were the last few times we've had this
setup?
5. Squaring the lunar nodes at the time of the eclipse is a
very exact opposition between Mars and Saturn. What do
you think this aspect to the eclipse says, and what do you
think the effect of Mars and Saturn's aspect to the nodes
says about their strength in the eclipse?
6. What would you say about the Mars-Saturn cycle when
it reaches the full phase, as it is here? Has anyone looked
closely at this cycle as part of their studies? What was
going on at the conjunction point when the cycle began,
and what was happening at the last opposition?
7. Does anyone who studies essential dignities (Rulership,
Term, Face, Sect, etc.) have any comments from this
branch of traditional astrology about the aspect between
Saturn and Mars? Or the other planets involved?
8. Given the involvement of Saturn, Mars and the Nodes,
this sounds like a good chart for Vedic astrologers to
consider. Any comments from the Vedics on the malefics
lining up in this way? How does Vedic astrology feel
about contact between the Sun and the North Node?
When you switch the chart to Sidereal, what do you get?
9. Humanistic astrology is slowly letting go of the idea of
a "malefic." Can anyone offer an alternative interpretation
for the aspect between Mars, Saturn and the Nodes,
separate from or as part of the eclipse?
10. In the setup, Mars is squaring Uranus. Has anyone
had experience with this mutual aspect, as part of or
separate from an eclipse? What kinds of events is it
associated with? How about Saturn square Uranus, which
is also in the setup?
11. Does anyone have any comments about the general
nature of the Fixed Cross (the relationship between
Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius), where this event is
located? Do we have any information about the
mythology of the fixed cross or of Leo in particular? What
does traditional astrology say about the Fixed Cross? Can
anybody who is into Alice Bailey summarize for us the
nature and meaning of the Fixed Cross in her school of
Esoteric Astrology?
12. There is a reference to something that sounds like the
Fixed Cross in the Book of Revelation. Any comments?
13. Are there any people who specialize in declination,
declination midpoints, or superaspects who can comment
on those aspects of the event?
14. Speaking of midpoints, are there any comments from
that department? I have seen them prove to give
remarkable insights into the nature of charts for current
events.
15. Asteroids often prove to be very useful in looking at
events of this nature. Any comments from the asteroid
belt? Can anyone post the positions of a bunch of the
asteroids for the chart, including Fanatica?
16. The "Uranians," or transneptunian points (TNPs) are
significantly involved in this setup; several of them are in
close aspect to the event. Does anyone with familiarity
with the TNPs have comment about their involvement?
How about Transpluto?
17. On the subject of Uranian astrology, what do the dials
look like?
18. Onto Chiron and his friends. The Centaurs are
positioned very interestingly -- mostly out of the way of
the event. Any comment from people experienced with
Chiron, or with Pholus and Nessus? As of this writing in
late April 1998, Chiron is currently in range of the
eclipse, making a T-square with Mars and Uranus. Any
ideas about this? What do you make of Nessus's position
on the Galactic Center at the time of the eclipse? The
fourth, as yet un-named Centaur, 1994TA, is directly
involved, in a close conjunction with Saturn and the TNP
"Admetus," all in Taurus. Any comments from the
Centaur tribe about these things?
19. The Sabian Symbol for the event is "A houseboat
party," representing, "The temporary freedom from
rigidly structured behavior." Any comments? I think it
would be worthwhile to look at the Sabians' degree
ranges through the fixed cross and see what kind of story
this tells. As well, the Sabian Symbols are not the only
degree-by-degree interpretation system. If you know of
others, can you please comment?
20. Are there any Scorpionic America fans out there?
What is this event's aspecting to that chart? What are the
progressions to Scorpionic America at the time of the
event? I have seen interesting alignments of a wide
variety of progressions of Scorpionic America (solar arc,
secondary, tertiary, minor, etc.) that may prove
insightful.
21. The eclipse is at just past noon Munich time, making
it over Munich. Does anyone who has the West German
chart want to comment?
22. How do transits and progressions to the UN chart look
at the time of the event?
23. Do the charts of any nations or corporations glare
with involvement with the Aug. 11 1999 event? We're
probably looking for such charts with intense stuff in the
fixed signs.
24. What do you see when you use Harmonic charts to
rearrange the setup?
25. What about checking in with entirely different
astrologies: Dreamspell (Mayan) astrology comes to mind;
Chinese, Five Star Key; Heliocentric; Horary.
26. As an afterthought, what about checking aspects to
charts of major transition points, such as the Harmonic
Convergence, the Challenger, the winter solstice of 2012,
etc.
I think that covers it for now. Please mail your responses
